A Tale of Two Markets

What a busy week! I worked a lot...and discovered that elementary schools are actually quite fun.  I taught elementary music one day and that was fun, but I had a blast with 3rd grade.  Hopefully I'll get to work at that school more.
I also worked at the AT&T Performing Arts Center where I volunteer....for 14 hours on Thursday!! (Note to self: Find more comfortable black shoes!!) I did have a great time though...I love that theatre.  During the day we had student matinee shows from the Dallas Black Dance Theatre.  They taught the students about dance and it was fun to see some of the kids who had never been to a theatre enjoy the show.  And at night.....I worked Cosi Fan Tutte...an opera. Apparently, opera is not my thing.  What a snoozefest! We had bets on which of us workers could stay in and watch the show the longest...needless to say I was the 3rd one out lol and definitely didn't win the contest. However, I feel that at least now I can say I've seen an opera.  For whatever that's worth! I am going to work Madame Butterfly later in the season though...It's worth giving opera another shot for that show.
Anyway...let's get to the market..two of them to be exact...
In my endless search for an HEB in the DFW area, I decided to venture into Central Market, their partner store, to see if it was anything close.  BOY WAS I WRONG! I have never seen a grocery store like that in my life.  Apparently, as I was told later by Patti, there is only one way to go through the store...there's a path, and also a map at the front.  It's ridiculously confusing.  I got lost approximately 47569827635 times in that store...and they didn't even have what I went in there to get! :( Chalk it all up to more life experiences right? haha
Saturday Patti and Parker and I went to the Farmer's Market, which I've been dying to get to...and it was completely worth it! I'd never been to a farmer's market and though I don't eat many fruits and vegetables, I immediately fell in love with it.  What an awesome place! Vendors lined up by the dozens, beautiful arrangements of the produce, a million vibrant colors jumping out at you, and everywhere you turn someone is offering you a sample of their fruit.  Strawberries, apples, pears...right off the tree! They were delicious and we brought home about half of the food there it seems. haha They also have a flower section...which was already beautiful, but Patti said that in the spring the market is the most beautiful display of flowers in Dallas...I can't wait!

Me and Patti both vowed to go there more often...and what better way to stimulate the local economy so I can get a real job?! hahaha

So those were the main events of the week...possibility of snow again on Tuesday...yay!

Let It Snow...on my birthday!

Hey all! Just wanted to share some of the fun I've been having this past week in Dallas...
Tuesday was Patti's birthday and Thursday was mine so we did a LOT of celebrating this week! Tuesday we went to the Oceanaire (a really nice restaurant at the Galleria in Dallas, styled like the inside of a cruise ship, and AMAZING seafood!) They even printed Happy Birthday Patti on the menus!

The best present of all was 12 1/2 inches of snow on my birthday! I even built myself a snow present instead of a snowman.  I had a great day...woke up to cupcakes, snow, Beatles Rockband, snow, pizza, snow, mattress sledding, snow, Babe's (my favorite restaurant in Dallas), and more snow :)  Catch my drift??

Friday we played in the snow again, I made my first snow angel, went sledding on a hill down the street, and even made "snow icecream" (snow, sugar, and maple syrup), and ended the day watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies...How about those tap shoes with sparklers on them?! Where can I find some?

Monday mornin' it's back to work for me...teaching high school english...but rest assured I'll be perky and ready to go with my Starbucks gift card mom sent for valentine's day! Thanks mom!

Everyone have a happy valentine's day!
